Medi Aid: Accommodation
The other 70 per cent are those with no means, and mostly rely on the government pension. For them, there is no ingoing fee; they pay a modest weekly rental which is about 50 per cent of the normal commercial rental for a similar unit. Most are eligible to claim a substantial government rebate which makes their accommodation cost relatively small. It has positively transformed the life of many hundreds of people.

SYDNEY
Our flagship is “Vimiera Village” at 217 Vimiera Road, Eastwood, which incidentally was opened by then Prime Minister John Howard who specifically thanked Medi-Aid for not asking the government for any money! There are other purpose built smaller villages, and blocks of home units or individual houses at Eastwood, Epping, Ryde, Meadowbank, and Armidale.

SURFERS PARADISE
In Queensland, Medi-Aid accommodates approximately 200 elderly people in individual home units, mostly on the surf front overlooking the ocean, located in various high rise blocks. All of the residents (we call them “delegates”) are the frail elderly and on the low rental scheme.

Majority have had an unfortunate background, or negative sudden life change (death of a partner, cancer, illness, “old age”, eviction from their home, or no home.) Majority are lovely people.

Medi-Aid has maintained a continuous building programme for nearly thirty years. It last constructed an 8 level accommodation building at Parramatta, adjoining Westfield. Completion was early 2011.

HOME COOKED MEALS ARE BEST

Specially when done by a proper chef and you are not in the kitchen. Thats why many seniors move to Vimiera Retirement Village in the Sydney suburb of Eastwood. Also, your linen maybe provided and laundered, domestic chores carried out, lawns, gardening and outside maintenance ate attended to. 24/7 on site management and security are all part of the scene.

Easy On Your Finances

Operated by Mediaid Centre Foundation , a non-profit PBI and Charity, Medi Aid provides housing across all socio-economic levels. Medi Aids Vimiera Retirement Village is resident funded (similar to church and community organisations, although much easier on your pocket.)

Located on public bus transport, near Macquarie Centre (and the new Epping and Chatswood railway link). It is near churches, banks, RTA, doctors and medical centres and pharmacies. It has its own lovely park, Dr Dr James Wright. says.
